Level Tool

Clinometer & angle

Level Tool uses the iPhone's motion sensors as a level and clinometer for rough angles and slopes, including jobs like leveling an RV. The reading is approximate and is not a substitute for a real level on structural or safety-critical work.

What it is

Level Tool uses the iPhone's motion sensors as a level and clinometer for rough angles and slopes, including jobs like leveling an RV. The reading is approximate and is not a substitute for a real level on structural or safety-critical work.

Who it's for

People who want a quick angle or a level check and already have an iPhone: hanging a frame, checking a slope, or getting an RV close to level before they follow the manufacturer's steps.

What it does

  • Level and degrees. Shows whether a surface is close to level and how many degrees it is off, using the phone's sensors.
  • Angles and slope. Reads an angle so you can compare a pitch or a slope. Phone sensors are approximate, and accuracy varies by phone and by how steadily you hold it.
  • A zero you set. You can zero the reading on a surface you already trust, then measure relative to that. Zeroing does not turn the phone into a calibrated survey instrument.

How it compares

The Measure app that comes with iPhone includes a level. Apple's guide says those measurements are approximate. Level Tool is a dedicated clinometer for the same kind of rough check, aimed at angles and jobs like an RV, without the measuring-tape part of Measure. For a staircase, a roof you will walk on, or anything structural, use a proper level or instrument and the method the job requires. A phone is a check, not a certification.

Questions people ask

How accurate is it?

Approximate. Accuracy varies by iPhone and by how steadily you hold it. Apple describes the built-in level the same way. Use a real level when the result matters for safety or structure.

Can I level an RV with it?

You can use it as a rough pitch and roll check while you adjust, then follow the RV maker's procedure. Do not treat the phone as the only instrument for a setup that affects safety.

How do I check the reading?

Set the phone on a surface you have already checked with a bubble level. If Level Tool is not near zero, use its zero or calibrate control, then check again.

Does it need a network connection?

No. The sensors are in the phone.
